The ground is my ocean. I'm the shark and most people don't even know how to swim.

Meet Our Instructor

Jesse Cruz is the head instructor at Crucible Jiu Jitsu. Jesse’s experience in Jiu Jitsu spans three decades, having begun his journey under the tutelage of Royler Gracie black belt, Louis Vintaloro. After enlisting in the Marine Corps, Jesse was stationed in San Diego, CA. While in San Diego Jesse found Pitbull Jiu-Jitsu and began training under Professor Joao Cunha.

During his time in service, Jesse was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to represent the Marine Corps as a member of Camp Pendleton’s Varsity Submission Grappling Team.
As a member of the team Jesse trained under the head coach and Gracie Barra black belt, Gunnery Sergeant Corey Bennin. Jesse also helped start the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Submission Grappling and MMA club, and served as the head coach for 2 years.

In 2016 Jesse moved back to the east coast, reuniting with Louis Vintaloro at Performance Jiu-Jitsu academy, until opening Crucible Jiu-Jitsu in the spring of 2022.
Jesse is married to Justyne, herself a Marine Corps veteran, and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt. He is a Dad to five children, with only the youngest yet to start training. Jiu-Jitsu is truly a passion and a way of life for Jesse and his family. Crucible Jiu-Jitsu is an extension of that passion and that family. We all look forward to sharing this beautiful art, and helping you along your Jiu-Jitsu journey.
